Excellent book series is about to become an excellent TV miniseries. This one has been in the works for a long time, of course, but this is the first confirmation that they're actually filming it now.
I've circled this series since it first came out, but I've been reluctant to dip into it, having been burned on Robert Jordan's asymptotic plotting (the closer you get to the end of the story, the longer it takes to get there) and of course his untimely demise before finishing. I've made a vow to never start an open-ended fantasy series again.
It will be curious to see how they can pull off a sprawling fantasy on TV. Sure, the core constituency will always be there, but die-hard fantasy fans do not a profitable television market make, in my opinion.
I've been jumping up and down since I heard this news, even after I heard that Dance with Dragons got pushed back (again). Amazing. Though I've never really thought of the series as fantasy; it's almost more magical realism meets historical fiction, albeit a false history.
First Sword of Truth as a TV series (which could be better) now... one of the greatest fantasy epics EVER?
Now this is cause for celebration! Song of Ice and Fire has all the substance a tv series needs, a wide variety of characters and most of them are Awesome with capital A!
